Natural Turf Pitch Renovation at Kent United FC, Dartford
Kent United FC has been based at Glentworth Sports Club in Dartford since the club was formed in 2023. Football has been played at the ground for much longer, with the site’s connection to the club’s predecessor dating back to 1999. The venue now supports Kent United’s senior and youth teams.
After a busy season of play, the pitch required further renovation to restore its condition and encourage fresh grass growth. Bourne Sport had completed a similar programme during the previous summer and returned to repeat the work following another full season.
Unwanted organic matter had also built up at the surface. This needed to be reduced before the next stages of the renovation were completed.
The team scarified the entire pitch in one direction using a Rytec scarifier. This removed unwanted organic matter from the surface, with the resulting arisings placed in a designated area on site.
A 10-15-10 fertiliser was then applied across the field at a rate of 35g/m² to support recovery. The pitch was overseeded in two directions at the same application rate using Barenbrug E7, a durable perennial ryegrass mixture developed for renovating high-wear sports turf.
The following day, 60 tonnes of 60-30-10 rootzone were spread across the pitch. The material was supplied by Bourne Amenity and delivered by John Bourne & Co. Once distributed, the rootzone was worked into the surface from several directions using a drag mat.
A Verti-Drain treatment is also scheduled for the autumn as the next stage of the pitch maintenance programme.
